Working safely is in the interests of employers and employees alike. Although most of the legal duties fall to the employer, health and safety law is one of the few pieces of legislation that places duties on the employees as well. There are three reasons for managing risk at work that brings benefits for all concerned 1) moral – workers should not be harmed in any way by the work they do, 2) legal – the law requires it and 3) financial – it’s extremely expensive for companies when
accidents occur.

Workers have an expectation to go home at the end of a working day, not having been harmed by the work they do. Most people think that accidents are something that happens to other people.
The reality is very different.

This course covers why everyone should work safely; it defines hazards and risks – identifying the common hazards; explains how to improve safety performance and protect the environment.

Training is a big part of changing attitudes and can make a real difference to workers’ behaviour at work.
